The Federal and Regional Presidents meet in Slemani

In a meeting on Monday, May 11, 2020, in Slemani, Dr. Barham Saleh, President of the Republic of Iraq, and Nechirvan Barzani, President of Kurdistan Region, discussed the political situation and the steps follow the formation of the Iraqi government and the need to resolve the ongoing crises.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the political developments in Iraq, and stressed the need to resolve the current crises and differences and move towards stability and tending to the lives and livelihoods of the citizens in all the regions, including Kurdistan.

In this context, the formation of the new Iraqi government headed by Mustafa al-Kadhimi was carefully discussed. The need for supporting the federal government was stressed to overcome the current crises and work to improve the livelihood and health of the citizens, defeat the remnants of terrorism and achieve security and stability in all the regions of Iraq, as well as solve the accumulated problems between Baghdad and Kurdistan Region in accordance with the Constitution, in particular to resolve budgetary issues and employees' salaries.

In another part of the meeting, views were exchanged on the need to unite and calm tensions in Iraq in order to mobilise all the forces and possibilities to achieving safety, providing better living conditions for the people and carrying out radical reforms in addition to serving the people and their demands in accordance with the Constitution instead of narrow differences and conflicts.

The two sides also stressed the unity of ranks and cohesion in the Kurdistan region, so that the parties devote all their capabilities and energy, avoiding tensions and complications, to meet the needs of the citizens and secure their livelihoods and achieve political and security stability.
