President Barzani’s Statement on the Anniversary of the September Revolution
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Fifty-nine years ago, on a day like today, the largest armed political and social revolution of the people of Kurdistan erupted in Iraq in order to defend the legitimate rights of the people of Kurdistan.
The September Revolution was a comprehensive revolution for all the different regions in Kurdistan, in which all groups, social strata and all the religious and national components participated. All the gains achieved and the struggle that has continued from that time to the present day is attributed to that revolution and its strong and wide appeal.
The September Revolution was a school for preparing Kurdish revolutionaries and freedom fighters. The revolution reinvigorated the will and self-confidence of the people of Kurdistan and proved to the enemies that they cannot, through marginalization, through the use of force and the practice of injustice, push the people of Kurdistan towards conceding their legitimate rights.
The importance of the September Revolution in the history of our people lies in the fact that its activities were not confined to one region, and that it strengthened organization, faith, sacrifice and the love for Kurdistan in the minds and hearts of the freedom fighters of Kurdistan.
On this blessed occasion, we recall the valuesand principles established by the great September Revolution, and we affirm that they will remain a bright torch in the path of our people's struggle. We also highly appreciate the struggle and efforts of all the revolutionaries, the Peshemrga, and the cadres of the September Revolution, women and men, and all those who played positive roles in this great revolution.
