The Kurdistan Region’s high-ranking officials extended condolences on the passing of the late Erbil Governor. Dr. Firsat Sofi passed on Wednesday morning 18 November after a long battle with COVID-19.

President Masoud Barzani issued the following message on this sad occasion: 

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Gracious the Merciful

 

The news of the death of the Governor of Erbil, Dr. Firsat Sofi, deeply saddened and pained me.

 

The late Dr. Firsat Sofi’s skills, sincerity and integrity were exemplary. He was an active patriot who was able, in a short period of time, prove his competence and win the hearts and minds of the masses. Losing a dedicated young man like Dr. Firsat is a big loss, as if I have lost one of my sons.

 

I express my condolences to the family of the late Dr. Firsat and all his companions in the government and the governorate, and the general population of the Governorate of Erbil.

 

We belong to Allah and to him we shall return.

 

Dr. Firsat Sofi served as Erbil Governor for 14 months. During his governorship, he headed the COVID-19 Task Force for the governorate.
