President Masoud Barzani’s Photo Album
The Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party has prepared a photo album containing photographs of most political and diplomatic activities of the president during his terms as the President of the Kurdistan Region.
The album presents 700 photos that were taken during President Masoud Barzani’s official meetings with world leaders and dignitaries in the Kurdistan Region and abroad.
The album’s introduction and photo descriptions are in Kurdish, Arabic and English. The English introductions is reprinted here.
In June 2005, the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) President Masoud Barzani was elected President of the Kurdistan Region by the Kurdistan Region Parliament.
25 July 2009, the Kurdistan Region’s President was elected to a second term with 70% votes from the people of the Kurdistan Region.
30 June 2013, the Parliament extends term of Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani.
8 August 2014, President Masoud Barzani, as Commander-in Chief of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) armed forces, led the fight to defend Iraqi Kurdistan against ISIS/IS (Islamic state).
25 September 2017, President Barzani leads historical Independence Referendum in which 93% of voters expressed support for Independence.
29 October 2017, the Parliament voted to extend the term of President Masoud Barzani but he declined and remained the KDP’s President.
As President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani broadened and strengthened the Kurdistan Region relations with governments of many countries, international agencies and civil society organisations. President Barzani met with leaders and other dignitaries both at home and abroad.
President Barzani has been widely featured in the media. In 2014, he was among eight candidates being considered to become TIME Magazine’s 2014 Person of the Year.
