Hoshyar Siwaily receives the Head of UNAMI at the KDP Foreign Relations Office

Head of the KDP Foreign Relations Office, Hoshyar Siwaily, received Ricardo Rodriguez, Head of UNAMI Erbil Regional Office and his accompanying delegation in Salahaddin.

At the onset of the meeting, Mr. Siwaily thanked the Head of UNAMI and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for her efforts to mediate between Baghdad and Erbil. Her role in formulating the Shingal agreement was appreciated.

In the meeting, Mr. Siwaily presented the KDP views on a number of current issues, including Erbil-Baghdad relations following the ongoing negotiations by the Kurdistan Region delegation in Baghdad. Relations between the Kurdish political parties and the need for unity and coordination were emphasized. The Head of KDP FRO also updated the guest delegation on the presence of PKK fighters and the Turkish military reaction on the border areas and their impact on the peace and stability of these areas and the inhabitants’ livelihood.

The UNAMI delegation reiterated the UN's commitment to assist the Federal and Regional Governments to settle their differences and reach a comprehensive agreement on all the outstanding issues.
