KDP officials meet the US Consul General, Mr. Rob Waller

Tuesday, January 26, 2021, The US Consul General, Mr. Rob Waller was received by Mr. Hoshyar Zebari and Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily in Massif Salahaddin to discuss current affairs of the region, particularly the Kurdistan Region and relations with Baghdad and the international community. 

 

Mr. Zebari welcomed the Consul General and congratulated the People and Government of the United States on the smooth transition of power. He also expressed great enthusiasm with the new Biden administration and wished the new administration will make positive contributions to peace and stability in Iraq, the wider region and the rest of the world. 

 

Mr. Zebari briefed the American Consul General about the recent visit of the KDP delegation to Baghdad to discuss the ongoing political issues and to resolve issues with 2021 federal budget. 

 

Other topics discussed during the meeting was the recent visit of the Turkish Defense Minister and the Shingal agreement, as well as KDP’s new approach to political parties in Iraq. On this topic, Mr. Zebari conveyed the need for real partnership with the federal political parties for the sake of Iraqi people within the framework of the Iraqi constitution.

 

Also present at the meeting was Mr. Mark Redmond, a Political Officer at the Consulate General of the United States of America in Erbil and Ms. Zozan Berwari, Head of the American Desk at the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
