Barzani thanks Sweden for taking Kurds in during hard times

Masoud Barzani received Swedish Ambassador to Iraq, Lars Ronas, on Thursday and thanked him for his country’s hospitality to save Kurds during the hard times in 80s and 90s.

During the meeting, Barzani and Ronas discussed the Kurdish diaspora in Sweden and said they hope the cultural integration could reflect in the relations between Erbil and Stockholm.

They also reviewed the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, including the continued threat of the Islamic State (IS).

Ambassador Ronas thanked the Kurdistan Region and its Peshmerga forces for their contribution to the global efforts to defeat the Islamic State.

Another focus of the meeting was the relations between the people of Kurdistan, the Swedish people and the Kurdish community in Sweden which President Barzani expressed his appreciation to Sweden that hosted Kurdish citizens during troubled days and the Anfal period of 1980's.
