Three Peshmerga Fighters martyred, Two Injured in IS Attack near Kirkuk

Three Peshmerga fighters were killed in the wee hours on Saturday while repelling an Islamic State (IS) attack, officials confirmed.

According to a statement from Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate “CTD”, the attack occurred in Prkan village, near Prde, south of Erbil.

Despite the casualties, the Peshmerga forces soon repelled the attack and brought the situation under full control, a statement from CTD said.

Peshmerga ministry also issued a statement to confirm that the attack had targeted the 10th Brigade of the Peshmerga, and it has been completely defeated.

The ministry also pointed out that “many” IS militants were killed during the confrontation with the Kurdish forces. However, no accurate data have so far been published.

Nouri Hama Ali, the commander of Peshmerga forces on Kirkuk-Prde axes told Kurdistan 24 that other two Peshmerga fighters were wounded in today’s attack.
