US Stands with Peshmerga to Defeat IS: Consulate General

The US Consulate General in Erbil issued a statement on Sunday after three Peshmerga fighters were killed in clash with Islamic State (IS) militants.

The diplomatic mission offered condolences to the Kurdistan Regional Government and the families of the fallen Peshmerga.

“The United States remains committed to standing with the Peshmerga and other Iraqi security forces to ensure that ISIS is completely defeated,” reads the statement.

Early hours on Saturday IS attacked Peshmerga positions on Pirde front in south of Erbil. After a fierce confrontation, three Peshmerga fighters were killed and two others were wounded.

Kurdish leaders issued separate statements to condemn the attack and remind that the security vacuum in the areas between the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces, have become a haven for IS militants, especially in the areas around Kirkuk.
