The KDP faction in the Kurdistan Parliament is scheduled to present its party’s view on the Constitution Project of the Kurdistan Region to the Parliament Presidency.

This week, the KDP faction in the Kurdistan Parliament is scheduled to present its party’s view on the Constitution Project of the Kurdistan Region to the Parliament Presidency.  The head of the KDP faction says we want all political parties in Kurdistan to take part in the process of drafting the constitution.

 

Zana Mala Khalid, the head of the KDP faction in the Kurdistan Parliament, on the official website of the Kurdistan Democratic Party has made this important announcement and emphasized the need for every political party, and every component of the Kurdistan Region to take part in drafting the constitution. 

 

According to Mr. Khalid, the KDP faction will convey the official position of the KDP with regards to a constitution which is representative of the Kurdistani people. 

 

Mr. Khalid further said that we believe the constitution is for all the people of Kurdistan and not just for this term of the parliament or one political party, because in the end, the people will vote for it, not just the parliamentarians. Therefore, all political parties in the Kurdistan Region should participate in the process of drafting the constitution. Ethnic groups, religious groups and communities, and other national parties representing the people should participate in the process.  Institutions such as the Parliament, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, the Judicial Council should also participate in the process of drafting the constitution.

 

Regarding the criticism towards KDP’s view by some media outlets, Zana Mala Khalid said, the official position of other political parties will be addressed accordingly, however, the difference of opinion of the Kurdistani people is highly respected as we believe the Constitution is bigger than any political party. 

 

He also mentioned, the KDP is the majority in parliament, but the majority does not been taking advantage of the situation while drafting the constitution. On the contrary, KDP has always been the main and strongest advocate of the right of the people, therefore, if the constitution is drafted based on KDP’s view, then we will be honored because the constitution will be a Kurdstani constitution, representative of the people, and serving the interest of the people.
