The Peshmerga Ministry of Kurdistan Region has confirmed that five Peshmerga soldiers were killed and two others were injured in Saturday’s attack by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters.
The ministry said in an official statement that the Peshmerga forces were ambushed in Matina Mountain of Amedi, Duhok province of the Kurdistan Region. “We have repeatedly warned of the occurrence of such an incident, and we call on everyone to respect the borders of the region and not to endanger the security and stability of the Kurdistan region,” reads the statement.
Peshmerga officials says to media that the PKK had attacked a Peshmerga convoy with rockets. At least two Peshmerga soldiers were transferred to a hospital in Duhok for medical treatment.
