On June 1, 2021, President Masoud Barzani received a high-ranking delegation from the Sadrist Movement headed by the head of the political body Nassar al-Rubaie.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on the political situation in Iraq and the challenges facing the political process. The upcoming elections were also shed light on and the aspirations for the next stage. Furthermore, the two sides stressed that the presence of the components and the multiplicity of spectra in Iraq was not the result of a political decision, but rather has historical roots and based on this basis, the two sides agreed that respecting the partnership, building confidence between the components and starting a different stage of the political process is a necessary matter.
In another part of the meeting, it was stressed the need to benefit from previous experiences and learn from them in defining the duties and rights of all parties in a balanced and clear manner during the next stage, and that providing the necessary services to citizens is the main priority for all parties.
The two sides agreed to continue relations, coordination and cooperation to correct the course of the political process. Fadil Mirani, Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Hoshyar Zebari and Jaafar Eminki, Members of the Political Bureau and Ali Hussein, Head of the Department of Kurdistani and National Relations of the Kurdistan Democratic Party attended the meeting.
