The Kurdistan Democratic Party released a statement condemning PKK’s attack on Peshmerga forces that caused 12 causalities.

 Once again, the PKK, as part of their thirty-year policy of causing war, attacked Peshmerga forces. Five Peshmerga were martyred while seven others were injured on the Mountain of Matin.

The PKK has never respected the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region and its institutions. They have deliberately transferred the war with Turkey to Iraqi Kurdistan and since, have handed over these areas to Turkey. Since the March 1991 uprising, the villagers who were forced out by the Ba'athist regime had returned and made a home in their villages. However, the PKK presence has forced those close to border areas, one again, to leave their livelihood and homes. The PKK has unfairly taxed and extorted farmers and those who visit the areas.

In 2014, when ISIS attacked Kurdistan, the Peshmerga directed their fight in areas to combat ISIS. PKK took advantage of this and moved into the village areas. Once the threat of ISIS had been removed, Peshmerga forces returned to previous posts in the border area.

Yesterday's aggression by the PKK against the Peshmerga is a violation against the home land, sovereignty and the people of the Kurdistan Region. It is paramount essencial that all political parties in Kurdistan take an unanimous position against this massive plan that’s been perpetuated by the leaders of PKK. We also call upon the Iraqi Federal Government to fulfill its role and duty.
