President Barzani receives the US ambassador to Iraq

On June 21, 2021 in Salahaddin, President Masoud Barzani received the US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed the political situation and the upcoming elections in Iraq, as well as the challenges facing the Iraqi political process. The US ambassador also offered his condolences and sympathy to President Barzani on the occasion of the martyrdom of a group of Peshmerga during the last period at the hands of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants, stressing the importance of the stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq for his country, and describing the Kurdistan Region as a stable and advanced model compared to the rest of Iraq.

In the same meeting, the two sides highly evaluated the steps to unify and organize the ranks of the Peshmerga, the reforms in the Ministry of Peshmerga, and the formation of coordination centers between the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan and the Iraqi forces to confront the threats of terrorism.

In another axis of the meeting, the scientific level of the universities of the region and the efforts being made for their progress, as well as their effects on the future of the Kurdistan Region, were highlighted.
