President Masoud Barzani received, on June 23, 2021 in Salahaddin, Amb. Stephen Hickey, the British Ambassador to Iraq.

During the meeting, which was attended by James Thornton, the British Consul General in Erbil, views and opinions were exchanged on the political process, early elections in Iraq, the next stage in Iraq, political equations in the Kurdistan Region and relations between the region and Baghdad.The security and political challenges facing the Region and Iraq were also highlighted.

In another part of the meeting, the impact of international and regional policies on the future of Iraq was discussed, as well as ways to ensure stability in Iraq. In the same meeting, the two sides discussed the steps for forming military coordination centres between the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi forces. The reform steps in the Ministry of Peshmerga and the unification of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces within the framework of the Ministry of Peshmerga were highlighted.

Another focus of the meeting was the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Great Britain and ways to strengthen those relations.

It is noteworthy that Stephen Hickey, the British Ambassador to Iraq, and James Thornton, the British Consul General in Erbil, have finished their official duties in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and they visited President Barzani for the purpose of farewell.

For his part, in addition to expressing thanks, President Barzani wished the two guests success in their new tasks and duties.
