Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters once again on Saturday opened fire at the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces in Matina Mountain near Amedi, a senior official confirmed.
Peshmerga Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Jamal Mohammad told local media that no casualties were reported from the attack.
He revealed that PKK’s attack had occurred at approximately 08:30 am (local time), and the Peshmerga forces returned the fire.
Mohammad renewed a call on the PKK to avoid provocations and respect Kurdistan Region’s sovereignty.
Earlier this year in two separate incidents, the PKK fighters killed five Peshmerga soldiers in a rocket attack in Matina Mountain, and killed another by a sniper fire near Zakho.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has been repeatedly asking the PKK and Turkey to avoid using its territories as their battleground.
