EU: “Unable cooperate with Iraq if it shows lack of commitment to constitution, democracy and human rights”

President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani today received the Director-General for Political Affairs at the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Bjorn Lyrvall, Sweden’s Ambassador to Iraq Jorgen Lindstrom, and their accompanying delegation.

President Barzani discussed with Mr Lyrvall the bilateral relations and highlighted its importance between the Kurdistan Region and Sweden with both sides wishing to upgrade their economic relationship.

In the meeting, the Swedish delegation emphasized the problems facing Iraq’s political process and efforts to resolve the crisis, stressing that Sweden and the European Union are unable to cooperate with Iraq if it shows a lack of commitment to their constitution, democracy and basic human rights.

For his part, Mr Barzani expressed his satisfaction with the delegation’s visit, thanking the government and people of Sweden for supporting the Kurdish people during times of adversity.
