Hoshyar Zebari, Member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Politburo (KDP-Pb), received Hakan Karacay, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in the Kurdistan Region.
During the meeting, Zebari reiterated the importance of cooperation between the two sides to achieve a common goal, which is development and stability. The current situation in the Middle East was discussed. KDP-Pb members mentioned that the region requires strengthened relations between governments and institutions to deal with the threats that face our region. An early election for the Federal Parliament of Iraq was also part of the meeting.
Zebari mentioned that Iraq is going through a sensitive period and faces difficult challenges, so we need to work together to make the process peaceful and fair and help pull Iraq out of current uncertainty. The present and next governments have a tough job to deal with. We, as KDP, are ready, pre and post-election, to work with other parties to strengthen the state institutions and reduce militia influence and neighbors' intervention. Relations between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Turkey were another part of the meeting.
For his part, Hakan Karacay talked about his country's concerns and readiness to cooperate in all fields aiming to achieve mutual interest. Both sides highlighted the importance of dialogue to resolve the differences and make the positive progress that the region needs.
