The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party Foreign Relations Office Hemin Hawrami today met Director-General for Political Affairs at the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Bjorn Lyrvall, Sweden’s Ambassador to Iraq Jorgen Lindstrom, and their accompanying delegation. Mr Hawrami welcomed the delegation and discussed the importance of relations between the two sides, asking for an upgrade of Sweden’s diplomatic representation in Erbil to a general consulate. Developments in the Kurdistan Region were praised by the delegation and expressed their satisfaction of their visit. The meeting was also attended by members of KDP’s Foreign Relations Office. On the political situation in the region, Mr Hawrami said the KDP’s position is to continue implementing a civil and peaceful coexistence in a democratic society. Mr Hawrami confirmed the KDP supports the peace process between the Turkish government and the PKK to end hostility. On matters in Syria, the decision of its people will be respected, including rights of the Syrian Kurds and the consolidation of democracy. Non-compliance of the Iraqi constitution by some of the  political parties has exacerbated the current deterioration of the crisis between the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. Mr Hawrami stressed the KDP is committed to resolve tensions in Iraq.
