Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) receives Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako.

Fazel Mirani, Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, received His Beatitude Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, also attended by members of the political bureau, Hoshyar Zebari, Azad Berwari and Rebwar Yalda, Mirani welcomed the patriarch and his accompanying delegation, including Bishop Mar Basilios Yaldo. He praised the national role of the patriarch. He emphasized that KDP’s consistent policy stem from its historical struggle and Barzani's long-standing immortal heritage, which led to the consolidation of the principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all the components of Kurdistan. 

 

For his part, the patriarch thanked the political bureau for the warm reception, then the two sides discussed the general situation in Iraq, especially the Kurdistan Region after the recent parliamentary elections and the situation of the Christians in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He also thanked the people of Kurdistan for sheltering and providing security to refugees that come from all components of the region, which need to be protected. Cardinal Sako also plaudits the progress in the region and stressed the importance of Kurdish unity in facing challenges and resolving differences with Baghdad. As well as the need for all segments of the Iraqi people to participate in the political process in order to advance the country's reality after years of injustice, darkness, terrorism, exclusion and corruption.
