The Head of the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) welcomed Mr. Atila Toth, Consul General of Hungary and accompanying delegation.
Hungary is an active member of the international coalition against ISIS, fighting terrorism and cooperating with the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces. Hoshyar Siwaily, head of the KDP Foreign Relations Office (FRO), thanked the Hungarian government for supporting the Kurdistani people and emphasized the significant role they continue to play in the war on terror.
During the meeting, the latest events in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed, particularly the formation of the new cabinet of the federal government. Siwaily said the KDP, on the guidance of President Masoud Barzani, will make every effort to help form a democratic government in respect to the results of the elections. At the same time, maintain real partnerships among the Iraqi nation to include everyone in the decision-making and governance of the state where all components feel embraced rather than isolated.
"The Iraqi political system and constitution is federal, and the constitution clearly states the authority and rights of the federal government and the region," said the head of KDP FRO. In regards to the latest decision by the Iraqi Supreme Court, which he described as a political decision that was far from the interests of the Iraqi people, the KRG is pursuing its own governing, political and economic system in accordance with the laws and articles of the constitution.
Although the Iraqi federal government has violated much of the constitutional articles, the federal court has chosen to remain silent and is now pushing for a political agenda.
Discussions between the delegation and the KDP Foreign Relations Office emphasized greater cooperation and the progress of relations between Hungary and the Kurdistan Region.
Mr. Atila Toth, consul general of Hungary, announced that his country will continue to cooperate with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to achieve stability, peace and improve the services that are in the interests of both sides.
