Hoshyar Siwaily received Ms. Canan Atilgan, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung and the accompanying delegation which consist of Mr. Gregor Jaeck, Head of KAS Office Syria/Iraq, Mr. Simon Engelkes, Referent at KAS Berlin and Ms. Maha Haddad, Senior Project Manager.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on how to advance and strengthen relations between KDP and KAS in different fields such as capacity building. Current KAS activities and programs in the Kurdistan Region were highlighted and Siwaily, on behalf of the KDP, expressed appreciation for the assistance KAS provides.
Mr. Siwaily on behalf of the KDP leadership thanked CDU, in particular the party’s parliamentary group for their support to extend the mandate of the German troops in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Additional views were exchanged on the current developments on the federal and regional levels with the main focus on the the KDP’s role in forming the new federal government. KDP supports democratic and a strong government capable to handle the crisis in the country and bring peace and prosperity to all components of Iraq. Also, relations between the Kurdistani political parties and their impact on internal stability and government formation were also discussed. Head of the KDP FRO reiterated that unity among political parties guarantee the protection of Kurdistan’s interest and security. While the current situation in Iraq and obstacles of the political process were discussed, Siwaily emphasized on the essential of institutional independence and none interference in other institutions to be used for political agenda. We, in Iraq, need stability, development and security to provide services to the people to be able to face these challenges. Dr. Canan Atilgan shows her institution willingness to coordinate to help build stronger institutions and capable cadres to face challenges.
