A joint statement by the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Today, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region the meeting of the two political parties of Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, was held. 

 

The meeting discussed the current political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and mutual cooperation is needed to overcome barriers that create difficulties for the political process of the country. 

 

Both sides insisted that after the initiative and visit by His Excellency President Nechirvan Barzani to Sulaimaniyah, there is an opportunity to restore the trust and coordination between the political parties through dialogue. Both sides decided that for this purpose, the two political parties will establish a committee from the Political Bureau of both parties to discuss the process of the upcoming election of the Kurdistan Parliament.

 

Also, they emphasized the cooperation and support of both sides for the Kurdistan Regional Government and the governmental institutions and an end to the continuous media campaigns against each other.
