President Masoud Barzani received today in Salahaddin Ambassador Mitja Leskovar, Ambassador of Vatican to Iraq.
During the meeting, Ambassador Leskovar, on behalf of the Vatican State, strongly condemned Iran's attacks on on a number areas in the Kurdistan Region, and offered condolences to President Barzani and the people of Kurdistan for the casualties as a result of those attacks and bombings.
Vatican ambassador to Iraq expressed his appreciation for the position and role of President Barzani in the struggle of the people of Kurdistan and the establishment of peace, as well as his appreciation for the culture of coexistence that the people of Kurdistan embraces, and thanked the people of Kurdistan for embracing hundreds of thousands of displaced people and refugees from various components, especially Christians, during the darkest days and times of despair.
President Barzani pointed to the depth of the culture of coexistence among the people of Kurdistan, and stressed that the people of Kurdistan will continue to promote this culture and even if there are some abnormal voices that stand against coexistence, these voices are not accepted by the people of Kurdistan.
The meeting also covered an exchange of views and opinions on the Iraqi political situation, and President Barzani stressed the need to address Iraq's problems on the basis of dialogue and the constitution.
In conclusion, the Vatican ambassador thanked the people of Kurdistan and the region's institutions for receiving and hosting His Holiness the Pope, and on this occasion he presented a special gift to President Barzani.
