President Barzani receives the UN Secretary-General's Representative in Iraq

President Masoud Barzani received UN Secretary-General's Representative to Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

 The meeting discussed the political situation in the region and relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government and efforts to resolve the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.  They also stressed the need to implement the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government on the normalization of the situation in Sinjar and the return of refugees.

 The political situation in the Kurdistan Region was another topic of the meeting and regarding the issue of elections, President Barzani stressed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) believes that elections are an unchangeable principle for legitimacy and governance.  He stressed that the will and interests of the communities must be taken into account and no methods and formulas should be imposed on the communities of Kurdistan outside the will of the communities.
