President Masoud Barzani received US Under Secretary of of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, along with a delegation that included US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski, US Consul General in Erbil Mark Strou and several US diplomats.
The meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq and the region, relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq, the need to resolve their issues and the issue of constitutional rights and financial entitlements of the region.
The meeting highlighted the security threats and the risk of the resurgence of ISIS in Iraq and the region and emphasized the coordination between the Kurdistan Region, the Federal Government of Iraq and the coalition to confront the threat of terrorism and security obstacles.
The guest delegation appreciated the development of the infrastructure and peace and stability in the Kurdistan Region and stressed the need for coordination and unity between the political parties in the Kurdistan Region.
In another part of the meeting, President Barzani said that the Kurdistan Region has always tried to be a factor of stability and solution in Iraq and wanted to resolve its problems with the federal government through dialogue, but there are a number of factors that hinder amicable resolution to relations between the federal government, the return of refugees and the normalization of the situation in the Sinjar region.
