KDP and UNAMI discuss the situation in Iraq

A delegation from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, (UNAMI) headed by Kiorki Bosstin, Deputy-Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq and Sokol Conde, United Nations Office Administrator in Kurdistan held talks with Dr Kamal Kirkuki, Member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. The meeting was attended by Head of KDP Foreign Relations Office Mr Hemin Hawrami , and Ahmed Kani, Head of KDP National Office. The delegation admired the values of the Kurdistan democratic process and its stable security measures. The delegation primarily assessed the UNAMI experiences in the Kurdistan region, expressing indignation about the situation in Iraq, declaring that they are attempting to resolve issues between the conflicting parties. Dr Kirkuki highlighted the current status of the Kurdistan region and in particular the recent visit of the delegation headed by Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, and the scheduled visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday, describing it as a positive step. Mr Hawrami asked the UNAMI to be allocated with the largest number of observers for the upcoming elections in Kurdistan and to provide facilities to ensure the ballots are exercised to within people’s right to have their candidates elected formally.
