U.S. administration welcome President Barzani’s visit to Baghdad

President of Kurdistan-Region Massoud Barzani visits Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad for talks on efforts to end on-going disputes between the two sides.

There have been positive reactions on President Barzani’s part in his visit to Baghdad, which follows-up on Mr Maliki’s visit to Erbil earlier this year.

The United States Department issued a statement welcoming the visit of Mr Barzani:

“The United States welcomes Mr Massoud Barzani’s visit to Baghdad, on Sunday 7th July and his meeting with Mr Nouri al-Maliki,

On the occasion of this visit, we call upon and urge all Iraqi leaders to adhere to the spirit of reconciliation and national unity, in order to overcome the threats of terrorism, and the strengthening of democratic institutions in the country and promote the prosperity of all Iraqis.”
