US Consul General hopes for further progress and prosperity for American relations with Kurdistan

Kurdistan's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received the new US Consul General in Kurdistan.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani wished success to the new Consul.

The US Consul said he was satisfied with his placement in Kurdistan and wished further development and progress of the American relations with the region during his duties in region.

The current situation in Kurdistan and relations with the central government in Iraq was discussed during the meeting especially the normalisation of relations between the two sides, to resolve problems through dialogue and in accordance with Iraqi constitution.

US Consul General spoke highly of the mutual visits between officials of the two sides, especially the visit of the President and Prime Minister of Kurdistan to Baghdad and the Iraqi Prime Minister's visit to Erbil as steps which serve all Iraqis.

The Syrian situation was another topic of the meeting where Mr Barzani expressed concern over the deteriorating situation, stressing the national rights of the Kurdish people in Syria referring to the situation of refugees in Syrian Kurdistan, and asked the international community to help them.
