Hawrami receives senior United Nations delegation

Hemin Hawrami held talks focusing on the stability of Kurdistan, its proactive levels of economic development and the democratic process with a senior United Nations delegation consisting of Deputy UN Special Envoy to Iraq Mr George Boston and UN Official in Kurdistan Ms Maria Jean Connie.

After welcoming the delegation, Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Head of Foreign Relations Office addressed them on the Parliamentary processes in the region, the presidency and the objectives of the Kurdish National Conference.

The crisis in Syria was also on the agenda where Mr Hawrami reiterated the position of the KDP that it wants the Kurdish people in conflicted areas to be protected.

On the upcoming elections in Kurdistan, Mr Hawrami said the KDP has well-prepared itself and will be in accordance with schedule, recalling that the UNHCR has notified Kurdistan-Region President Massoud Barzani on 8th April 2013 and Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani requested the UNHCR to conduct elections on 21st September 2013.
