Hawrami and Pennington discuss political situation in Kurdistan and Iraq

The United States General-Consul in Kurdistan Mr Joseph Pennington met with Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Chief Mr Hemin Hawrami and office members for talks on the current situation in Kurdistan and Iraq with his accompanying delegation including Political Adviser to the Consul Seiji Shiratori.

Mr Pennington was impressed by the stability and economic processes in Kurdistan, stressing that the region could still succeed despite all the obstacles and constraints it has faced to maintain a stable democratic territory.

Mr Hawrami on behalf of the KDP congratulated the Consul-General in assuming his duties and wished him every success in his role before speaking on the process of elections in the region; expressing readiness to conduct elections for the Kurdistan Parliament and provincial councils, explaining the details of how the opposition's non-cooperation in consensual mechanism.

The Kurdish National Congress was the focus of the meeting, where Mr Hawrami noted the preparations, participants and the objectives of the conference,  noting that the conference should confirm the legality of the Kurdish issue and coexistence with other nationalities in the region, resolving issues in a democratic and peaceful manner.
