President Barzani meets Special Envoy of British Prime Minister

President of Kurdistan-Region Massoud Barzani received the Lord Jonathan Marland, Special Envoy of the British Prime Minister David Cameron, and his accompanying delegation

Lord Marland said he was pleased with the visit and satisfied with his meeting with President Barzani, congratulating him on the success of the recent general election. He was impressed by the high participation of citizens who voted in the election, which amounted to 73%

He said it is evident based on the high turnout of voters on how important these elections are in the lives of citizens while showing praise for stable conditions in the region and for foreign investment.

Lord Marland said he would like to encourage British companies to work in various areas in the region, that one of the major banks could open a branch in Kurdistan as well as a university to establish a campus.

President Barzani expressed his pleasure for the development of bilateral relations between Kurdistan and Britain at various level. On talks of the elections, President Barzani said he has become accustomed to the citizens to participate in the democratic process and that the high participation are the subject of our admiration and our happiness.

Their meeting focused on other concerns including the future of neighbouring Syria where President Barzani said Kurdistan wants to see Syria to be a democratic guarantor of rights for its Kurdish civilians.
