Philippines Commends Role of Peshmerga in Fighting Terrorism

The Philippines has commended the role of the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces in fighting terrorism in the region.

The remarks were made by the Philippine ambassador to Iraq, Generoso Calonge, during his meeting with  president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, in Erbil on Tuesday.

"During the meeting, the Philippine ambassador to Iraq praised Barzani's role in the Kurdish people's struggle, expressing his appreciation for the patience of the Kurdish people and the role of the Peshmerga in fighting terrorism and establishing security and safety in the region," .

He further pointed out that the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga "enjoys respect and a special position in his country."

During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on extremism and how to combat terrorism locally and globally, the statement added.
