President of Kurdistan-Region Massoud Barzani met in the presence of presidents and representatives of political parties - excluding the Goran movement - with a delegation from the Iraqi Parliament, headed by Speaker Osama Al-Nujaifi.
During the meeting, that considered and discussed the elections regulations, and to find a way to reach a consensus on the upcoming elections for Parliament, Osama al-Nujaifi said the outcome of the discussions between parliamentary blocs on the law, “addressing the core issues in the political process must be made by consensus,” noting that the law is compatible which required the consent of all parties, may postpone the elections to the House of Representatives because while talks are ongoing.
For his part, Mr Barzani stressed that consultation and discussion and exchange of views between the political parties on important meetings is very important law, pointing to the need not to delay the elections and the democratic process.
Mr Barzani said the Kurdistan region was subjected to great injustice in previous elections in terms of the distribution of seats and share of provinces, stating previous laws were not fair.
President Barzani: “We should take some action to prevent a repeat of such injustice to correct this error, and learn the real provinces share of parliamentary seats was a census year.”
He also stressed the need for political parties to reach a solution on the election law, but this cannot be at the expense of the Kurdistan region or any other component.
Then they put forward their views and opinions about the quota system and compensatory seats and the negative and positive aspects of the system and the one and the multiple services and find a way to reach a consensus on the law of the House of Representatives election.
