Kurdistan-Region President Massoud Barzani today met with members of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kurdistan. The delegation consisted of British MP Nadhim Zahawi, Robert Halfon, Meg Munn and Mike Gapes.
Their meeting Mr Barzani focused on the recent parliamentary elections held in Kurdistan, the political and security conditions in the region including efforts to seek recognition of the Kurdish genocide in the United Kingdom.
Talking of the recent parliamentary elections held in Kurdistan, Mr Zahawi offered his congratulations to the people of the region. He said, “We offer our congratulations for holding successful elections. Kurdistan is truly a beacon for the rest of the country. We are very pleased that the elections went ahead without any incidents.”
In return, Mr Barzani thanks the delegation for their efforts in raising awareness of the Kurdish genocide at the British Parliament.
"The people of Kurdistan truly appreciate the work that you have done to seek recognition for the Kurdish genocide. We offer full Kurdistan Regional Government support to your efforts. What you have achieved is very encouraging to our people," Mr Barzani said, adding most importantly is what happened to the Kurds should not be forgotten.
Also in discussions were efforts that are currently underway to form the new KRG, relations between the itself and Turkey, and the situation of Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan-Region.
