President Barzani Receives the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq

On Thursday, President Masoud Barzani welcomed Dr. Mohammed al-Hassan, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, along with his accompanying delegation, at his residence in Salahaddin.

During the meeting, the discussions focused on the ongoing efforts and dialogue among political parties in the Kurdistan Region to form a new cabinet. Both sides underscored the urgency of establishing a new government in light of the current sensitive political climate, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration to address pressing challenges.

The conversation also addressed regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria and its broader implications. Concerns were raised regarding the potential resurgence of terrorism and extremist ideologies, as well as the risk of terrorist infiltration from Syria, which poses a significant threat to Iraq and the region as a whole. Both parties stressed the critical importance of security cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Government of Iraq to confront these challenges effectively.
