Kurdistan Cabinet ministers meet to discuss united stand against Iraqi government

The ministers of the Kurdistan government convened taking a united stand against the Iraqi government on Sunday over its imposed economic blockade on the region and its citizens. Kurdish representatives from the Parliament of Iraq and federal blocs attended this meeting to consider taking action.

 

After extensive discussion and exchanging views on the causes and consequences of the crisis, the meeting decided to vote unanimously on the following measures:

1)    Kurdistan is a part of Iraq and under the Constitution; it has a right to practice all rights and authorities as set out including a rights to a percentage of the budget from resources. It should not use the budget and salaries as prejudice against the Kurdistan or its citizens.

2)    Further meetings between the government of Kurdistan and Iraq on the basis of ensuring constitutional rights to the territory thus options to the KRG to provide minimum resource quotas to safeguard liberty of citizens.

3)    To ask the Iraqi Prime Minister, to terminate this illegal policy and submit Kurdistan’s share of the budget and salaries, in accordance to constitutional rights. To address outstanding issues with the KRG through dialogue.

4)    Request religious states and authorities, the United Nations, states of Iraq and the Arab League to assume their responsibilities in expressing their supremacies to pressurise the Iraqi government in ending their blockade and economic marginalisation against the Kurdistan region because such policy is breaching international conventions on basic human rights.
