Hawrami: “Kurds will continue to develop a democratic civil society”

The Head of the Foreign Relations Office, Hemin Hawrami, met with the President of Social Democratic block from the European Parliament, Mr Hannes Swoboda, in a meeting to discuss the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region.

Ms Celine Bayer, a political advisor, accompanied Mr Swoboda to the meeting where a number of Foreign Relations Office members, Kurdistan Parliamentarians and regional government representatives were also in attendance.

Mr Hawrami highlighted the latest developments in the region leading to the formation process of the next Kurdistan Regional Government, (KRG). He also briefed on the ongoing negotiations between the winning parties in the parliament and the disputes with the Iraqi government.

Mr Hawrami emphasised the commitment of the current KRG to the Iraqi constitution and stated the central government in Baghdad are not abiding by it and is having an adverse effect on Kurds’ vying to live in a civil, democratic society

The delegation expressed their delight in visiting the Kurdistan Region, commending the enduring growth and applauded Kurdistan as a safe haven where stability and security are driving factors for economic and political success
