President Barzani receives the Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry

President Masoud Barzani received, today, Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Salahaddin, Mr. Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry and the Ministry's Special Envoy for Syria Affairs, along with an accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the political and security situations and the latest developments in the region and Syria were evaluated, in addition to the potential risks of the return of terrorism, the role of the Kurdish parties in Syria in the future of the country, and the emphasis on the need to maintain stability and rely on peaceful methods and dialogue between all parties.

Regarding the future of the Kurds in Syria, President Barzani referred to the history of struggle, suffering and sacrifices made by the Kurdish people in Syria, stressing that the Kurdish parties in Syria must decide their future jointly and resolve differences through dialogue and peaceful means. He also stressed the need for the new political system in Syria to take into account the rights, aspirations and distinctiveness of the Kurdish People.

The meeting also included an exchange of views and opinions on the political situation in the Kurdistan Region, the negotiation process between the political parties and the formation of the new government in the region. The Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry praised the conduct of the Kurdistan Parliament elections that took place last October in a calm atmosphere and the high level of popular participation, describing them as successful and exemplary.

The meeting also witnessed an emphasis on the historical relations between the People of Kurdistan and Germany, where President Barzani expressed his thanks to the Government and People of Germany for supporting the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces during the war against ISIS terrorists. The guest delegation confirmed to President Barzani Germany's commitment to supporting the People of Kurdistan, and continuing permanent coordination and cooperation with the regional government in various circumstances.
