Hawrami: “Kurdish forces are in control their territories and not involved in conflict in Iraq”

Hemin Hawrami said in a meeting with the   head of Netherlands Liaison Office, Erbil , Mr Jeroen Kelderhuis, that the disputed Kurdish territories in the Kurdistan Region are protected and Kurds will not be a part of the conflict as northern Iraq is in turmoil with the Islamist militant group ISIS capturing another city on Monday.

The head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s foreign relations office spoke of the latest developments in Kurdistan and highlighted the KDP’s viewpoint on the Iraqi crisis.

Mr Hawrami said the Kurdistan Region is safeguarded against terrorism due to the courage of its Peshmerga - Kurdish security forces, which have become a de facto army in the region - and its stability is unaffected unlike other areas of Iraq. Diplomatic missions and commercial companies working in Kurdistan can continue with their duties as Iraq is on the brink of civil war after ferocious fighting engulfed throughout much of the country in recent weeks.

On the influences of neighbouring countries on the current crisis in Iraq, Mr Hawrami referred KDP and PUK delegation visiting Iran for talks to discuss the situation, and the forthcoming visit to Turkey for the same purpose.

Mr Kelderhuis expressed his admiration for the treatment of refugees in Kurdistan and his satisfaction for the visit to the region.
