President Barzani receives deputy speaker of German parliament

Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani received Claudia Ross, the deputy speaker of the German Parliament and her accompanying delegation in Salahuddin.

At the outset of the meeting, Ms Ross thanked Mr Barzani for the cordial reception and advised him that Germany will support the Kurdistan people in providing assistance to thousands of displaced civilians by airdropping humanitarian aid. Ms Ross also expressed her condolences to the families who have been worst-affected by the recent terrorist attacks in northern Iraq.

Mr Barzani welcomed Ms Ross’ comments and was appreciate of Germany’s dedication to providing relief efforts to Kurdistan while stating that the region’s policy will remain to continue protecting national and religious components.

Previous Iraqi governments had prevented Kurdistan from defending itself accordingly by arming factions surrounding the region, and Kurdistan now requires support from the international community. Mr Barzani stressed that the Kurds are steadfast and courageous to ensure themselves victory over their enemies
