Merkel expresses support for President Barzani and Kurdistan

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her support for the people of Kurdistan and its president, Massoud Barzani, in their battle against Islamic militants.

In a telephone call with Mr Barzani, Ms Merkel expressed her sympathy toward the thousands of civilians that are displaced after terrorists forced them to flee their homes; stating that the German government is open to sending military aid, fully to cooperating with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Mr Barzani thanked Ms Merkel for her support and sympathy while highlighting the security situation that Peshmerga forces will continue to defend Kurdish territory in order to bring peace back to the region.
