President Barzani: “Our friends support us due to the freedom and peaceful life that exists in the Kurdistan Region

Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani received the Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Erbil on Saturday for talks on the crisis in northern Iraq.

In a joint-press conference, Minister Steinmeier pointed out that: “We will do our best to help the Kurdistan Region and Germany will participate in the Europe lobby helping the KRG. We have decided to help the Kurdistan Region and we will continue to provide support for the Kurds,” said Steinmeier.

“We won’t leave you [Kurds] alone in the fight that you have faced and I thank the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for receiving and welcoming refugees.”

“I thank the KRG for welcoming all the refugees and what the KRG has done in this case should be respected,” he added.

President Barzani, in response, welcomed Steinmeier to Erbil and stated that his visit to the Kurdistan Region is recognition of our friends’ help and supports us in dangerous times.

“Our friends support us due to the freedom and peaceful life that exists in the Kurdistan Region and with their support, we will destroy the plans of terrorists,” said Barzani.

Last week, the U.S. ordered airstrikes in Iraq to assist Kurdish forces fighting in the region, while the country has also delivered several rounds of humanitarian aid, including food and medicines, to help the Yazidis stuck on Mount Sinjar.
