President Masoud Barzani welcomes the Special Representative to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq

President Masoud Barzani welcomed Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Special Representative to the Secretary General of the United Nations in Iraq.

The meeting discussed Iraq's latest political developments and last October's parliamentary election. 

At the meeting, President Barzani, conveyed his gratitude for the efforts of the United Nations, the European Union and the international community during the elections, stressing the elections for the Iraqi House of Representatives were fair and successful as mentioned by United Nations Security Council. 

He also pointed out that the initial results announced by the commission show the political reality of Iraq and the will of the citizens. He explained that there seems to be an attempt to manipulate the results announced by the commission and certainly any kind of manipulation will cause further division and deepen the problems in the country even more.
