Norwegian government offers support to Kurdistan

President Massoud Barzani engaged in a telephone conversation with Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Borge Brende, who offered his country’s support to Kurdistan as Peshmerga forces take on militants from ‘Islamic State’ to recapture territory in northern Iraq.

Mr Brende said he hoped that recent victories achieved by the Peshmerga will be “the beginning of the end” of terrorists in the region, while expressing sympathy for the thousands of displaced people forced to flee their homes.

He informed Mr Barzani that he intends to visit the region next week and reaffirmed his country’s humanitarian relief efforts.

Mr Barzani thanked Mr Brende voicing his appreciation for Norway’s support.

Barzani stressed that “terrorism is a global issue and it requires an international response and effort to combat it.”

“We have always adhered to the principles of freedom and the genuine culture of coexistence and tolerance in Kurdistan, and this is our point of strength when it comes to attaining victory against our enemies and terrorists,” said Barzani.
