Hawrami: International support compulsory in war with terrorist state

Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Head of Foreign Relations Office Hemin Hawrami held two separate meetings with the Deputy British Ambassador to Iraq, Blend Liwes, and the US General Consul to Kurdistan, Joseph Pennington, to discuss the current situation in the region and the battle against militants from the so-called ‘Islamic State’.

Members of the KDP FRO attended both meetings where Mr Hawrami expressed his condolences and sympathy toward the family of Mr James Foley, the American journalist brutally killed last week by ‘IS’ jihadists.

Mr Hawrami described that the Peshmerga will continue “fighting to eliminate the terrorists permanently,” while emphasising their war needs the support from the international community.

He added, on the Kurds’ participation in a future government of Iraq, that they’ll move forward after not accepting any more mistakes as during the past 10 years.

“The Kurds have a right to hold a referendum on establishing an independent Kurdistan,” Mr Hawrami said, stating that it must be held as soon as possible to prevent further implications such as oil and gas disputes and salary suspension of civil servants and Peshmerga forces.

At the end of the meetings, all sides expressed praise for the courageous

Peshmerga and determination of the Kurdish people at their time of crisis
