The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office Hemin Hawrami received Mr Dimitar Ougrinov, head of Trade and Economics at the Bulgarian embassy in Iraq, to discuss the latest developments in the region and the ongoing battle against ‘Islamic State’ jihadists.
At the meeting, which was attended by FRO members, Mr Hawrami said to completely eliminate the ‘Islamic State’ would require an “international strategy” which would be assisting the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, that has successfully regained control in large parts of northern Iraq and pushed the militants back with the backing of US airstrikes.
On the Kurdish participation in the new Iraqi government, Mr Hawrami stated the outstanding problems between Erbil and Baghdad should aimed toward resolution during this specific time period.
For his part, Mr Ougrinov expressed his appreciation for the cordial reception and commended the role of the Peshmerga in repelling aggression against ISIS and thanked the political leadership and the KRG which has received an “avalanche” of refugees. He also spoke of an establishment of a Bulgarian commercial centre, emphasising the developing bilateral ties between the two sides.
