Hawrami: Kurdish people praise humanitarian support from Germany and appreciate its military intervention

Hemin Hawrami expressed admiration for the military assistance and humanitarian aid provided by the German government in a meeting with the Consul-General in Erbil, Dr Oliver Schnakenberg.

The head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s foreign relations office discussed at the meeting the latest political and military developments in the Kurdistan region. Mr Hawrami stressed on the importance of the recent visit by Usrula von der Leyen, Germany’s defence minister to Erbil as a plane carrying ammunition for Peshmerga forces landed in the Kurdish capital.

Mr Hawrami thanked the US-led coalition for contributions which include military assistance and humanitarian aid as well as carrying out airstrikes against ‘Islamic State’ militants, he said there have been victories by Kurdish Peshmerga in ISIL positions in Syria-Iraq border town of Rabia, and Zummar.

According to Kurdish fighters, 50 ISIL members had been killed during the past day of fighting while the rest fled across the border to Syria or moved east towards their stronghold of Mosul. Over the past twenty-four hours, airstrikes from the US-led coalition have given cover to the Kurds as they began a push to retake a swath of land, including Rabia, snaking across the ever-important Northern Iraq-Syria border.

Dr Schnakenberg emphasised on the KDP’s constructive role in pushing ahead the relations between the two countries and militaries, adding that the two sides should strengthen contacts and exchanges and enhance mutual trust.
