Hemin Hawrami, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office, received a Japanese delegation that included the secretaries of the Japanese Embassy to Iraq, Mr Joumsha Tsuruta and Masauki Akahashi. Members of the FRO were also in attendance at the meeting.
Hawrami thanked the Japanese government, on behalf of the KDP, for their assistance in this war. The delegates discussed the current political and military developments ongoing in Kurdistan and Iraq, in particular, the confrontation with ISIL terrorists. Hawrami expressed the threat the Kurdistan Region faces, and notably the threat the world faces by ISIL. He also stated that the fighting continued as the ground forces, under the supervision of President Barzani, are making impressive gains in defeating ISIL in their strongholds, such as the victory in Rabia.
Hawrami and the delegation also discussed the crisis in Kobani, he emphasised that an attack on any part of Kurdistan, is an attack on all Kurdish people, therefore the protection and the defence is the responsibility of all, and what is happening in Kobani happened in Sinjar, to us.
The Japanese delegation were pleased with the warm reception they received from the FRO and from the Kurdish people. They recognized the impressive courage and capabilities of Peshmerga fighting ISIL militants. They also stated that the Japanese Government came to a decision, on 19th September, that a donation of $19 million was donated for displaced persons and refugees through international organisations, such as; WFP, UNHCR, IRC, IOM and OCHA. They stressed that the Japanese Government will continue their support for the victims in this war. So far, the aid from Japan has reached $27 million
