A representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office participated in the annual autumn party conference of the United Kingdom’s Liberal Democrats, which was held on 4-8 October 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Mr Dara Barawy was present at public events during the 5-day conference and also attended fringe meetings where he met the UK’s Business Secretary, Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable and expressed the KDP’s gratitude for the coalition’s valuable military support for Peshmerga forces and humanitarian assistance toward the people of Iraq during the battle against ‘Islamic State’ militants.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mr Barawy met with Rt Hon Danny Alexander, Britian’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentarian, in addition to meeting Dr Joeseph Garcia, Deputy Chief Minister of Gibralter, to discuss the current situation in Kurdistan and the wider region.
Mr Barawy took the opportunity to voice the concern of Peshmerga forces to attain heavy weaponry as the fight against IS intensifies. As he encountered in numerous diplomatic meetings with international politicians and diplomats, more notably he met the Deputy Prime Minister of the UK and leader of the Liberal Democrats, the Rt Hon Nick Clegg where Mr Barawy thanked him on behalf of the KDP for the courageous assistance helping Kurdistan with their struggle against terrorists. The sacrifices and heroism of Kurdistan were the bulk of most meetings with governmental and international organisations.
